Hubble, Bubble, Toil and
Trouble!

Its Time to prepare your pet for a
scare!!
Nowadays fireworks feature at all kinds of celebrations – not
just bonfire night. Many people enjoy fireworks, but many animals are
frightened by them.
If your pet is frightened by loud
noises, don’t ignore the problem. You should always seek advise
from you vet who will be able to give you a guide on how you can help your
pet cope with his fear of fireworks.
During the firework season, at nightfall, close all windows
and curtains and put on some music to mask and muffle the firework sounds.
If your dog or cat shows any signs of fear, try to ignore
his/her behaviour unless there is imminent danger- for example is she is
going to cause herself harm.
Never show anger to your dog or cat he appears frightened.
Do not fuss or try to reassure your dog or cat when he is
frightened. This will only convince your pet that there really is something
to be afraid of.
Make sure your cat or dog is kept in a safe and secure
environment at all times, so that he can’t escape in reaction to a sudden
big bang.
Don’t forget the rabbits, guinea pigs, birds etc too.
Ensure all outside cages are covered and provide lots of extra
bedding so your pet can have something to burrow into.
Ask you parents to ring the clinic and ask for our Guide to
Help Your Pets Firework Phobia so you can take extra care this year.
We wish you a very Happy Halloween and
Bonfire Night
